THE HIVE
Starting with a sad forlorn parking lot, I asked how can a garden restore and activate the minds and bodies of families who live in the Southlands neighbourhood of Vancouver? What resulted is a harmonious collection of spaces, shaped by hexagons, with plants and walls strategically placed to create a sense of mystery in a calm and enclosed area. A separated respite from a busy intersection for all to enjoy. Families climb, draw, and build together with a public washroom nearby. Friends meet up for a bite to eat or coffee. Students and staff bound for UBC wait at a covered bus stop.
